As Zekerijah Osmic, the Minister of Defense of BiH, explained for klix.ba, it was required from our country to join the fight against ISIS and to do it by donating its surplus of weapon to Iraq.
It was required from us to donate to Iraq ammunition 7.9mm-15 million rounds and 11.2 mm-near 400.00 rounds. In the lawful procedure, we have checked if have the surplus and since we found out that we have, the proposal was forwarded to the Presidency, that have adopted it. Currently, technical preparations for the realization of this donation are in progress“, said Osmic for klix.ba.
Otherwise, BiH disposes with 16.00 tons of surplus ammunition, and according to Osmic’s saying, we should completely get rid of it by 2020.
As Minister explained, the donated weapon was manufactured in Yugoslavia, and it went to the Armed Forces of BiH after connecting entity defense ministries into the Ministry of Defense of BiH.
But, the Presidency also made the decision that BiH should get rid of the surplus ammunition, so donation, destruction of weapon and its sales were intended.
“For now, we are working on the donation, as well as on the destruction of the surplus. Namely, our teams are reviewing warehouses where the ammunition old up to 30 years is located. Over time, it becomes unstable, as for people as well as for other ammunition, so we are removing it and in a lawful procedure destroying it“, said Osmic.
