The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, participated today in the GLOBSEC Forum 2026 in Prague, Czech Republic.
The twenty-first edition of the GLOBSEC Forum, one of the most important strategic gatherings in Europe, held under the theme “Global Systemic Transformation” and under the patronage of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, brought together world leaders, innovators and changemakers who focused on the strategic position of Europe in a dynamic global environment through discussions – from redefining alliances and shaping global governance, to strengthening pragmatic transatlantic cooperation.
As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister Konaković participated in a panel discussion entitled “Behind the Waiting Room: Rethinking the Enlargement of the European Union”, where he said that European integration for Bosnia and Herzegovina is not just a political goal, but a security imperative and a long-term investment in peace, democratic resilience and prosperity.
He stressed that enlargement policy today represents one of the most important strategic instruments of the European Union for strengthening stability, resilience and geopolitical influence of Europe. It reduces the space for malign external influence, strengthens democratic institutions, improves regional connectivity and deepens economic integration through the Single Market.
Konaković stressed that the European perspective must remain visible, achievable and based on fair and objective criteria, with a clear political engagement of the European Union and consistent implementation of reforms by the candidate countries.
He warned that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing the most complex political crisis since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, marked by increasingly pronounced and dangerous rhetoric directed against the constitutional order and state institutions, as well as political obstructions that undermine the country’s European path.
He stressed that BiH today stands at a crossroads between two opposing directions – a European future based on reforms, cooperation and democratic development, or continued blockades, instability and institutional weakening. He particularly emphasized the need for a stronger and clearer European engagement, visible support for pro-European forces in the country, and a transparent and accountable process for the appointment of a new High Representative.
The Minister emphasized the importance of preserving the full role of the Office of the High Representative as a key factor in protecting the constitutional order, the Dayton framework, and the institutional stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to Minister Konaković, the panel was also attended by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Ferit Hoxha, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Oana-Silvia Țoiu, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, and the former Federal Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Alexander Schallenberg, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH announced.
