BiH Minister: We Will Seek a Regional Solution to the Carrier Issue

The Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, said that today at the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH, he proposed information regarding resolving the problems of transporters, who rightly demand better action from all levels of government regarding facilitating working conditions, especially when it comes to staying in the European Union, but that the statement on this information was postponed due to an amendment in order to create an interdepartmental solution.

Forto announced that a meeting of all transport ministers from the region will be held in Belgrade this week, where they will inform everyone present about this issue and seek a regional approach to resolving the problem with concrete conclusions in terms of how to propose to the courts and relevant institutions in the EU an interpretation of international agreements that were signed in such a way that drivers cannot be treated as other types of migrants.

“This is a very complex battle and we will continue to work on it. I cannot know in what time frame we can resolve this problem, but if we had a regional approach, I am convinced that the EU would monitor what we are asking for much more closely,” he said.

Forto pointed out that he had asked the Council of Ministers of BiH to task the Ministry of Finance of BiH and the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH to start negotiations with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in order to help BHRT overcome the debt problem and potential blockage due to 16 million BAM.

“In the coming days, we could have some concrete proposal on where to find the funds and how to approach this. But we did not express our opinion on my proposal, because the Minister of Finance Srđan Amidžić was not at the session,” said Forto after the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH, BHRT writes.
