The new Gradiška border crossing is temporarily open for goods vehicles, i.e. for all international passenger and goods traffic, which means that trucks will be able to divert from alternative crossings that were available to them until 7 p.m.
Due to the suspension of traffic through the Gradiška Border Crossing, passenger and cargo traffic was diverted to other border crossings until 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, which caused huge crowds and hours-long waits at the exit from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The most difficult situation was recorded at the border crossing Jasenovac – Donja Gradina, which was under the greatest pressure of freight traffic. Truck drivers at the entrance to Croatia waited up to 16 hours, while passenger vehicles waited for about two hours to cross the border.
Large columns of freight vehicles were also formed on the Draksenić – Čuklinac road towards Gradina, where the columns were up to seven kilometers long.
Meanwhile, the Indirect Taxation Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina has made a decision to temporarily relocate the Customs Department from the Gradiška Border Crossing to the location of the new bridge in Gradiška.
As announced, international passenger and goods traffic across the old crossing has been suspended due to damage to the bridge on the Sava River, and the new operating regime began on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
“The Customs Department at the Gradiška Border Crossing is temporarily relocated to the location of the new bridge in Gradiška from May 19, 2026, at 7 p.m. and will last until the bridge is repaired, and no later than August 19, 2026, at 7 p.m.,” the ITA decision states.
It is added that the functioning of the Customs Department at the new location will be organized in the same way as before, using the existing Gradiška Border Crossing code BA094161, the official seal and IT applications that were previously in use.
The ITA has simultaneously reassigned customs officers to the new location to enable the smooth flow of international traffic.
The decision was made in accordance with applicable laws and the decision of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which designates a temporary border crossing at the location of the new bridge in Gradiška for international passenger and goods traffic.
