BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović spoke with the Minister for Europe of the Kingdom of Sweden, Jessica Rosencrantz.
At the beginning of the conversation, Bećirović emphasized that the Kingdom of Sweden is one of the largest and most important bilateral donors, and that it has been involved in the reconstruction process of BiH for decades.
It is particularly important that this country has directed funds to infrastructure projects, the private sector and civil society, as well as to projects in the field of strengthening human rights, democracy and natural resources.
During the telephone conversation, Bećirović informed the Swedish minister about the serious and increasingly intense security threats facing BiH.
He pointed out that the separatist leadership of the BiH entity RS is systematically and openly undermining the constitutional and legal order of BiH, as well as the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.
He emphasized how important it is for domestic and international actors to decisively oppose the policy aimed at undermining the foundations of the Dayton Peace Agreement. He also underlined the need for timely action and strong international support, with the aim of preserving peace, stability, and the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of BiH.
Bećirović said that attacks on BiH state institutions, including challenging the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the High Representative of the international community, must not be tolerated.
He recalled a recent meeting with representatives of the delegation of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8), at which he clearly emphasized that the Dayton Peace Agreement should continue to be the foundation of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that it must be consistently respected.
In the context of the support of the Nordic and Baltic countries, Bećirović emphasized the importance of strengthening the presence of EUFOR forces and introducing sanctions against those who violate security and peace in BiH.
The Minister for Europe of the Kingdom of Sweden, Jessica Rosencrantz, emphasized that Sweden unreservedly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, as well as condemns the attacks of the BiH entity RS on the constitutional order of BiH.
Sweden remains firmly committed to preserving peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to further promoting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards the EU and NATO. She stressed that respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and the work of democratic institutions is particularly important for the stability and future of the country.
Among other things, she said that Sweden supports the EU integration of BiH, as well as the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, assessing that the perspective of membership is a significant motivation for reforms that promote stability, economic and social development.
Minister Rosencrantz said that Bećirović’s visit to the Kingdom of Sweden in August last year was of great importance for further improving dialogue at the highest level and strengthening relations between the two countries at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
The interlocutors agreed that the BiH diaspora plays an important role in deepening relations between BiH and the Kingdom of Sweden.
