The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has opened a case in connection with Russian camps for Moldovan citizens, it was confirmed to Detektor, but did not offer more details about the results so far.
Detektor discovered this information during a joint investigation with the Moldovan CU SENS, which it will publish soon with previously unknown details and revealing the identities of the participants.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed to Detektor that a case has been opened in connection with Russian camps in BiH, which were discovered in late 2024.
The Prosecutor’s Office’s response does not specify what stage the case is in, i.e. whether they are conducting pre-investigation activities or an investigation is underway, and whether specific individuals are involved in these activities.
Detektor previously wrote that in October 2024, Moldovan police arrested four people who were trained in BiH and Serbia to cause unrest in the country, on suspicion that they planned to disrupt the constitutional order during the referendum on changing the Constitution that would strengthen the country’s accession to the European Union.
“Planning to destabilize Moldova has been stopped,” the statement said, among other things.
In 2023, BiH Defense Minister Zukan Helez told Detektor that training camps were also located in the vicinity of Sarajevo, but he did not provide concrete evidence, which was also the case with the Moldovan camps last year.
Helez said at the time that there were training camps for paramilitary units that were linked to Russian citizens, after which the State Prosecutor’s Office opened a case, but there were no concrete results.
Detektor, in a joint work with the Moldovan media outlet CU SENS for several months, investigated the background of the camps and the details of the organization.
The research will be published on the Detektor website in the coming days.
