BiH records over 350,000 unemployed Persons

In Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of August this year, according to the data of the institute and employment services, 350,316 unemployed persons were registered in the records, which represents a decrease of 145 persons or 0.04 percent compared to the end of July.

Of the total number of people seeking employment, 205,634 or 58.7 percent are women.

The largest number of recorded unemployment is made up of persons with a third degree of education.

Observed according to the qualification structure, the share of unemployed women is lower among highly qualified (VKV) – 21 percent and qualified (KV) – 48 percent of workers, compared to the share of unemployed men in the total number of unemployed persons. With other qualifications, there are more unemployed women than men.

Out of the total number of registered unemployed persons in August of this year, there were 19,010 newly registered persons looking for work, of which 9,276 were women. The number of persons deleted from the records of employment institutes and services is 19,249. The number of women deleted from the register is 9,200. Of the total number deleted from the records of institutes and employment services, 7,407 or 38.48 percent were employed, of which 3,795 were women or 51.23 percent.

In August of this year, employers reported 4,015 needs for employment of new workers to employment institutes and services in BiH, of which 911 were women, while the registered number of persons whose employment relationship ended in that period was 10,438. The registered number of women whose employment relationship ended in that period was 5,522 or 52.9 percent.

According to the data of the BiH Statistics Agency, in July of this year, the number of employed persons in BiH was 848,267, of which 381,135 were women. Compared to June of this year, the number of employed persons decreased by 0.3 percent, and the number of employed women also decreased by 0.4 percent.

The rate of registered unemployment for July this year was 29.2 percent, and compared to June 2023, it increased by 0.2 percentage points, the Agency for Labor and Employment of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced, noting that the data for August of this year are for Zenica- Doboj Canton repeated from June 2022, because the Employment Service of Zenica-Doboj Canton is in the process of implementing a new information system, and the data for August of this year is not yet available, Fena reports.
