BiH Security Minister: It is in the Interest of Peace and Stability to hold Elections

Selmo Cikotic, Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH) spoke about the gathering “Sloboda” (”Freedom”) held in Banja Luka, the situation with the migrant crisis, and the security situation in BiH.

According to him, the gathering “Freedom” in Banja Luka is an opportunity to show things as they are, especially to the international community in the context of the responsibility of the present and the past in terms of responsibility for many instabilities and problems that occur in this area.

Cikotic recently stayed in Bihac after a clash between migrants in which one person died. After meeting with officials from the city and Una-Sana Canton (USC), Cikotic received information that it was a conflict between a group of migrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan that existed before, which recently escalated and eventually led to a clash in which firearms were used, N1 reports.

“I believe that our security agencies, ie the Ministry of Internal Affairs of USC in cooperation with our agencies have shown a high level of efficiency. The suspects in that murder have already been investigated and further investigation is underway. Unfortunately, many migrants who come to our area bring with them problems from the countries, ie the region they come from, but during their stay in our area there are certain conflicts between them, which requires our services to work intensively to monitor them,” told Cikotic.

After Vjekoslav Bevanda from HDZ BiH and Zoran Tegeltija, chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers, rejected Cikotic’s proposal that the agenda includes the request of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH, ie the proposal of the decision requesting to provide funds for the organization of this year’s general elections, Cikotic said: ”It would be very dangerous to disrupt the automatism in holding elections, and it is in the interest of all, including peace and stability, to hold elections.”
