“The attitude of BH institutions is that every new energy source represents a new type of security for the supply of consumers, which is important not only for the region of Balkans but for the entire Europe as well,” stated Ivanic.
The Southern Gas Corridor should ensure 10 billion cubic meters of gas from the region of Caspian Sea, which will be transported over Georgia and Turkey to the EU.
In the beginning phase, the gas that is produced at the gas field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan will represent the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor. In the later phases, other sources will be connected as well.
The project foresees the extension of the Southern Caucasus gas pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anadolian gas pipeline for natural gas as well as the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline.
It is planned for the Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline to be connected to the Trans-Adriatic pipeline, which is intended for the delivery of Azerbaijan gas to Europe in the city of Fier (Albania).
The Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline should ensure supplies of Azerbaijan gas in several countries that belong to the region of Southeast Europe.
It is planned for this pipeline, which is 516 kilometers long, to pass through Albania, Montenegro, BiH and to end in Croatia. The capacity of gas pipeline will amount to 5 billion cubic meters of gas on an annual basis.
