Minister of Communications and Transportation of BiH Ismir Jusko highlighted that there were plenty of reasons for the adoption of this strategy, noting that the European Commission was clear at the Summit in Paris when stating that BiH will lose 130 million EUR and the possibility of applying for any project in the next year if the strategy is not adopted.
“I elaborated it all on the session and I claimed that such luxury is necessary for BiH, and the Council of Ministers unanimously adopted this document. The funds in the amount of 130 million EUR were put on the side and we asked them to give us some time, and we literally had until July 15 to do this. If this did not happen, I would have a difficult task tomorrow; I would have to stand in front of the journalists and try to explain why we lost 130 million EUR that would be directed to some other countries. The funds will now be allocated to projects in BiH, its entities and the Brčko District. We will have an opportunity to hire between 1.500 and 2.000 workers, because we do not only bring a new transportation structure, but we also enable the hiring of new people,” Jusko said.
Jusko confirmed that he will sign the agreement on the construction of the bridge on the Sava River in Svilaj. Automatically, construction of the bridge in Bosanska Gradiška will also begin.
“I believe that those two bridges are strategical priorities and we will be actively working on them. By the end of this year, we want the cornerstone set for both bridges. We got money for Zenica North, Port Brčko, Mostar South and a part of the section Doboj-Banja Luka,” Jusko added.
