Borrell criticizes EU: Half of the Bombs falling on Gaza come from us

Josep Borrell Fontelles

Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has sharply criticized the EU for its passivity towards the events in Gaza, assessing that this is the largest act of ethnic cleansing since World War II, and that half of the bombs falling on Gaza are provided by the EU.

Speaking at the ceremony of the European Prize “Carlos V” in the Spanish monastery of Juste, on the occasion of Europe Day, Borrell pointed out:

“We are witnessing the largest ethnic cleansing since World War II, Palestinians are being killed to make way for a tourist resort. The EU has the tools to protest and influence Israel’s behavior, but it is not doing so. Half of the bombs falling on Gaza are coming from us,” he said.

Borrell called the events in Gaza genocide, and called on the younger generations in Europe to pay the price of peace through faster military and financial integration of the European Union:

“If we do not do this, European civilization will not survive a chaotic world ruled by people like Trump and Putin.”

He called Putin a “despot” and Trump a “master of chaos”, stressing that the EU must increase its resilience to external shocks and take on more responsibility in global relations.

Finally, Borrell also criticized the EU’s slow response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, noting that the EU was late in delivering weapons to Kiev, AA writes.
