After five years as the Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Johann Sattler’s mandate will conclude on 31 August 2024.
In recent years, Bosnia and Herzegovina has made important steps forward on the EU path, achieving EU candidate status and receiving a green light for the start of EU accession negotiations. Progress is possible with political will, but much remains to be done.
The European Union has consistently demonstrated that it is a loyal partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens, including by providing lifesaving support during the COVID-19 pandemic and assistance to vulnerable families to deal with price rises following Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine.
Throughout his time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Sattler has connected with people from all corners of the country and all walks of life. He has seen first-hand that the people of this country have more in common than what divides them. In his farewell video, he underlines that Bosnia and Herzegovina will always be in his heart and that the people of this country deserve a better future – a future firmly in the European Union.
