According to the latest Henley Passport Index for 2025, Bosnia and Herzegovina has advanced to 47th place in the world, with the possibility of traveling to 122 countries without a visa.
The Identification Documents Agency (IDDEEA) emphasizes that this move shows that BiH is entering the group of 50 most reliable passports in the world, which, as they state, confirms the quality and security of our identification system, but also international trust in the country.
“BiH’s rank on the global passport list is not only a matter of mobility, but also an indicator of the trust of other countries in our institutions, documents and security standards. The IDDEEA Agency continuously strengthens technological infrastructure and harmonizes all processes with European regulations and ICAO standards. Our biometric solutions and digital identities already meet the highest requirements applied in the EU area,” Almir Badnjević, Director of IDDEEA BiH.
However, he adds, the key factor in creating visa-free regimes and bilateral agreements that directly affect BiH’s ranking is the activity of the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which conducts international negotiations and concludes agreements on travel facilitation.
“That is why it is important that technical security and international diplomacy act in sync. The IDDEEA Agency builds trust through security and document standards, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opens doors through bilateral agreements. This is the only way to create credibility that results in greater freedom of movement for our citizens,” Badnjević emphasized.
According to Henley & Partners, Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently ranked ahead of 34 European countries on the list, of which 26 are members of the European Union, and 12 countries outside the European continent. This has positioned BiH in the top 20 percent of world passports, with a trend of continuous progress over the past five years.
IDDEEA announced that they will continue, in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, to strengthen the security, technical and diplomatic capacities of the state, in order to ensure further improvement of the international status of BiH, both in physical and digital identity.
