Nature lovers, despite the snow and low air temperatures, found courage and swam in the lake in Rize, Turkey, at an altitude of 1.700 meters.
This is the eighth time that this event has been held on Kackar mountain, at the lake located in Galerduzu, and the organizer is local mountaineer Hasan Onder.
Experienced diver Zafer Kocal first had to break a part of the frozen lake so that the swimmers could swim.
This year, the event was attended by 36 people, who entered the cold water regardless of the very low temperatures.
After swimming, the gathered people warmed up by the lake drinking tea.
Onder said that they had to break the ice before swimming in the frozen lake.
Swimming instructor Ceyda Duskun pointed out that she participated in this unusual event for the second time.
“The weather was much colder than previous years, but we still got into the water. It’s much more difficult to swim than in the pools, but I invite people to try”.
Diver Kocal said that they spent about three hours breaking through the ice in order to organize this event, AA writes.
