Yesterday in the afternoon hours, a group of 984 recreatives cyclists reached the goal in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Marijin Dvor, and broke the Guinness record.
”We broke the Guinness world record in the number of cyclists who have reached the goal, now it is only left to send the recording to the Guinness Administration in order for the record to be officially confirmed”, said Muhamed Mizić, the spokesman of this event.
The recreatives cyclists came to Sarajevo from many cities in B&H: Cazin, Foča, Bihać, Banja Luka, Doboj, Zavidovići, Maglaj, Tuzla, Mostar, Brčko, Foča, Jajce, Zenica, Bosanska Krupa, Sanski Most..
1500 cyclists applied via the online registration form, and another 500 applied at the very start.
The last record in the number of cyclists was broken in 2010 in California, when 1300 cyclists were applied and 916 of them reached the goal.
The Sarajevo Grand Prix competition started in 10:45 a.m., when the cyclists, both recreatives and professionals, gathered in front of the City Assembly building in East Sarajevo.
At 11 a.m., the recreatives headed towards the center of Sarajevo (driving on the cycling lane all the way to Marijin Dvor, where they broke the record), and gathered at the Wilson’s promenade afterwards. At the stage between the Historical and National Museum, they enjoyed the program, music, and the distribution of valuable gifts.
The professional cyclists continued their ride towards Vogošća. Around a hundred of them from different countries of the world headed off from East Sarajevo at 11 a.m. sharp, and drove 162 kilometers of the lane in total.
The professional cyclists were heading towards Visoko, Breza, Vitez, Busovača and Kiseljak, after which they came back to Sarajevo at 2 p.m., and started with the first lap around the city. They rode five laps around the city, and the winner of the Second Sarajevi Grand Prix was to be announced by 2:20 p.m..
