The BRICS countries have called for the urgent initiation of a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and condemned Israeli attacks on humanitarian aid efforts.
The BRICS nations adopted the “Kazan Declaration” following the BRICS Leaders’ Summit held in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, within the Russian Federation.
The declaration states that BRICS countries will continue to develop cooperation on political, security, economic, financial, cultural, and humanitarian levels, with efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships for a fairer international order.
It emphasized that unilateral economic sanctions, including secondary sanctions, violate international law, and called for the removal of such restrictions that negatively impact societies.
The declaration highlighted the worsening situation and humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories, noting that violence in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank has reached unprecedented levels due to Israeli military operations.
BRICS countries expressed deep concern over Israeli attacks that have resulted in mass civilian casualties, injuries, and the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.
“We condemn Israel’s attacks on humanitarian operations, infrastructure, personnel, and aid distribution points,” the declaration stated, adding:
“We stress the urgent need for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the immediate and unconditional release of all unlawfully detained hostages and prisoners on both sides, and the unimpeded, continuous, and large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, along with an end to all forms of aggression.”
The BRICS nations support initiatives for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, the establishment of an immediate ceasefire, and an increase in humanitarian aid to the region, warning that further escalation of the conflict could have severe consequences on both regional and global levels.
The declaration also emphasized the need to create conditions for a political and diplomatic solution to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
