Case Against Naser Oric Cannot be Handed over to B&H?

oric2Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said Thursday that the case against wartime commander of the Bosnian Muslim forces in Srebrenica Naser Oric cannot be handed over to Bosnia’s prosecutor’s office because the families of the victims had not given their consent.

“Under the protocol on cooperation between the two prosecutor’s offices, we cannot cede the Oric case, as at the insistence of the Bosnian side, the Protocol was so drawn up that we have to obtain the consent of the families of the victims before we can hand a case over,” said Vukcevic.

“We interviewed representatives of the families of the victims and they unanimously refused to allow the case handed over (to the Bosnian prosecutor’s office),” the public prosecutor told Radio Free Europe.

Oric was arrested on a Serbian warrant in Thonex in the Swiss canton of Geneva on June 10, over his, and three others’, role in crimes against Serbs around Srebrenica during Bosnia’s 1992-95 war.

Oric is being held in detention pending extradition, and Vukcevic said that he did not wish to speculate about whether he would be extradited to Serbia.
