Even after today’s meeting of the President and Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, no agreement was reached on the formation of the Federal Government. Mirza Čelik, deputy of the Democratic Front in the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament, also spoke about this topic in the new edition of the BHT1 live show.
“Constitutional responsibility lies with three political subjects – SDA, HDZ and SDP. According to the current Constitution, they should agree on the appointment of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that such a joint proposal should go to the House of Representatives, where the final composition will be decided. Considering that already for several days we have had a ‘saga’ about the fact that Vice President Lendo does not want to sign because his party is not involved in that election process, it is a legitimate right that under the current Constitution Lendo demands that they be part of the parliamentary majority, i.e. part of the government at the level of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.
High representative Schmidt’s desire to impose amendments to the Constitution is something that will further deepen the crisis in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Čelik believes.
“Ethnically, we will divide even more. Simply, that civil concept will die in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
He emphasizes that today’s attempt to agree on the formation of the government is a clear indication that political subjects should not agree with the Party of Democratic Action (SDA).
“We are waiting for the holidays to pass, changes to the Constitution are expected by the high representative…”
There are two options that Christian Schmidt could act on. One is a permanent decision, and the other is a one-time – ad hoc solution. In the event that the high representative intervenes, a temporary decision is by no means the best solution, Čelik believes.
“By no means a temporary decision. This is the first time that after the election the rules that apply to the election of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina or anything else are changed. It is unprecedented, and even in the world, that Schmidt changed the Constitution on the night when the results were to be announced, that is, he brought to all these blockades. I am of the opinion that this should not happen anywhere in the world, not to mention in the Federation, Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
The Democratic Front only wants a long-term solution.
“If the high representative wants to do something good for Bosnia and Herzegovina, let him take the initiative of the Democratic Front and impose changes that way. That way he will solve all the key issues,” Čelik concluded in an interview with BHRT.
