It is interesting that there is a small number of men who identified themselves as persons who are performing housework, a total of 8,196 of them, and more than half, 4,576 of them, are in the RS.
Moreover, in almost all municipalities and cities more than half of the economically inactive women are listed as housewifes. In Bijeljina live 12759 housewives, 11455 in Brcko, 11489 in Cazin, 10092 in Doboj, and 8594 in Gracanica.
“The fact that we have almost half a million of housewifes discovers the harsh reality of BiH, where unemployment is a major problem. We can see from this that women do not have equal access to the labor market and that they are not competitive, both those middle-aged and younger ones. Of course, this information is not surprising considering that patriarchy is still in force and since rigid rules of division of roles where work outside the home belongs to the man and the work within the four walls of house is reserved for women, is still applied,” said the Executive Director of the Foundation Udruzene zene, Aleksandra Petric.
