At the meeting, it was emphasized that the relations between the two countries are very good and friendly, based on mutual respect. The intention to improve economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in other areas, was also expressed.

Bećirović informed Bilstrom about the current political and security challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and thanked the Kingdom of Sweden for its overall assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially Bilstrom as an active proponent of the European Council’s decision to open negotiations on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU membership.

He emphasized that the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to EU and NATO membership is a geostrategic investment in peace, democracy, security, stability and prosperity.

Bećirović pointed out the importance of Sweden’s accession to NATO, and added that membership in NATO is one of the strategic goals of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Northern Europe is much safer after the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO. The Western Balkans is the current weak point of the European security architecture, and for this reason it is necessary to speed up the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s entry into NATO,” Bećirović said.

Bilstrom expressed the importance of the first visit of the chairman of the BiH Presidency to the Kingdom of Sweden, as well as the need for more intensive cooperation between the highest officials of the two countries. He emphasized full support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and emphasized Sweden’s commitment to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. He reminded that on the 28th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, Sweden joined EUFOR (ALTHEA) and thus made an additional commitment to support the preservation of the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also pointed out that the Kingdom of Sweden supports EU enlargement, as well as the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that the relations between the two countries are very good and friendly, based on mutual respect. The intention to improve economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in other areas, was also expressed.
