Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Šefik Džaferović, said that today’s protests in front of the OHR and citizens’ dissatisfaction with the amendments to the FBiH Constitution and the Election Law brought by High Representative Christian Schmidt is completely justified.
– Citizens have the right to fight for the principle of being equal before the law as individuals. Making individual human rights a taboo would mean creating an obscure social climate. With his decisions, the high representative marked the already strong collective rights in the Federation, but did not strengthen collective rights in the RS, nor individual rights in the entire country – said Džaferović, the Cabinet of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency announced.
– It is indicative that the high representative emphasizes on unblocking the elections of the Government and judges of the Constitutional Court. The question arises as to why he did not bring in only the unblocking mechanism, but also other changes that he reluctantly talks about, and for which he receives praise from the authorities of the neighboring country and the party group gathered around the HDZ. The fact that he reluctantly talks about the deepening of ethnic divisions says it all.
The Bonn powers were not introduced to ethnically divide the state, but to integrate it. With this decision, Schmidt has betrayed his mandate and will have to get back on track very quickly, otherwise the credibility of the OHR will be completely ruined. The fact that he is the first high representative who has regular mass protests by citizens, as well as never less support in the PIC, should prompt him to think carefully, instead of unfortunately running away from reality with statements that border on arrogance, and sometimes even and they pass. I advise him with the best of intentions – said Džaferović.
