The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke in Sarajevo with US Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Richard Durbin.
Bećirović thanked Senators Shaheen and Durbin for their long-standing and consistent support for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that, during their mandates in the Senate of the United States of America (USA), they contributed with concrete actions to the protection of peace and stability, strengthening the partnership between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the USA, and preserving the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Richard Durbin belong to the circle of proven friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In important moments for our country, they acted concretely and principled in the US Senate. Bosnia and Herzegovina appreciates and remembers such friends,” said Bećirović.
The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina especially thanked Senator Shaheen for her many years of personal commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that over the years she was one of the strong voices supporting our country in the US Senate, consistently supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the preservation of its constitutional order.
Bećirović also pointed to the importance of the recent joint reaction of Senators Shaheen and Durbin regarding the pressure on the employees and associates of the Srebrenica Memorial Center. He pointed out that their clear message about the need to protect the Memorial Center, respect the rule of law and prevent intimidation of those who preserve the truth about the genocide represents another confirmation of their principled support for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Chairman of the BiH Presidency emphasized that the continuation of the strong engagement of the USA is of particular importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that American support is important for the protection of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the progress of our country towards full membership in NATO and the EU.
The Chairman of the BiH Presidency also emphasized the importance of preserving the full capacity and continuity of the OHR. He stressed that in times of serious geopolitical and security challenges, the international community must maintain effective instruments for preserving peace and implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement.
