“This is the first year that we are planting chamomile, and our goal is to increase production by 250 hectares’’, said Pekić and added that they also planted 20 hectares of pumpkins.
These farmers plan to employ as many Croatian returnees as they can so that they could return to their homes, and currently they employ five people.
He added that they plan to export chamomile to the European market, beginning with Croatia, Germany and Switzerland, and that the quality has to be flawless.
Pekić said that this is about organically growing chamomile, which would primarily be used in the pharmaceutical industry.
The sector for agriculture in municipality Šamac said that the production of chamomile and pumpkins are planned incentives from the municipal and RS budget, and that manufacturers are constantly in contact and give them useful advice for the production of medicinal plants, whose production in this area is still in its infancy.
