A citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina was caught in the act of smuggling twelve Chinese, whom he drove from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Zagreb in the trunk and passenger compartment of his car.
On Friday evening, in the town of Slobodnica near Slavonski Brod, police officers found three men and nine women of Chinese nationality in the interior of a Bosnian-Herzegovinian-marked car in the trunk and passenger compartment, the Slavonski Brod police reported on Sunday.
When stopping in the parking lot, the driver of the car tried to run away, but the police officers prevented him from doing so and arrested him.
According to the police, the arrested 33-year-old was supposed to transport the illegal migrants to Zagreb for money compensation, according to the agreement and instructions of unknown persons from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He was sentenced to pre-trial detention, and is charged with illegal entry, movement and stay in the Republic of Croatia, another member state of the European Union or a signatory of the Schengen Agreement.
Migrants who illegally entered the Republic of Croatia via the Sava River will be prosecuted in accordance with the Law on International and Temporary Protection and the Law on Foreigners, reports Hina.
