Civil Protection Administration issued a Warning for heavy Rainfall

The Republican Administration of Civil Protection of Republika Srpska announced today a warning of heavy rainfall in the next 30 hours.

In the warning, they stated that in the previous two days there had been heavy rainfall in the west, where the amount of rainfall was slightly less than the monthly average. The most rain until May 13 to 15 at 8 am fell in Novi Grad and Prijedor, 86.6 mm and 80 mm of rain, while the average for May is 95 mm.

“These amounts of precipitation caused a sudden rise in the water levels of the rivers in the Una and Sana basins, as well as the activation of torrential watercourses, landslides and stormwater spills,” the Republican Administration of Civil Protection stated.

It was pointed out that new rain will begin in the afternoon, which will intensify tonight and tomorrow during the day, and that the precipitation will weaken tomorrow evening and in the night towards Wednesday. Rain and thunderstorms are expected again on Wednesday.

“From Monday afternoon to Tuesday evening, 40 to 80 mm of rain is expected in the west, up to 100 mm of rain in the extreme west, and an additional 20 to 50 mm on Wednesday,” they stated in the warning.

It was emphasized that due to heavy rainfall in the basin of the rivers Una and Sana in the previous period, the soil is saturated with water and the water levels are in the domain of medium high waters.

“New precipitation in the coming period will cause an additional increase in water levels in the entire Una and Sana basin. Heavy precipitation in a short period of time can cause the appearance and overflow of torrential watercourses and urban floods,” they pointed out in the warning.
