The Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton has issued a warning to legal and natural persons to take preventive measures for protection and rescue from heavy rainfall and strong wind.
They state that, according to forecasts from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, in the period from 21.07. until 23.07.2023. in the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Canton of Sarajevo, they expect more heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusts of wind and hail. They add that the Institute has issued an orange warning for local showers, accompanied by thunder and increased wind and hail for the time interval from 07/21/2023. from 16:00 until 22.07.2023. until 11:59 p.m. and that 15 to 35 liters of rain may fall locally per square meter and that winds of 45-65 kilometers per hour are expected.
“All legal entities and natural persons are warned to preventively, in order to protect the health and life of people, as well as material and cultural assets, immediately in accordance with their competences, as well as the obligations prescribed for them by the Law on the Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters, to take the necessary preventive measures to protect against rainfall and strong winds (preparing adequate forces and material and technical means for a quick response to announced rainfall and strong gusts of wind) because this will create the conditions for effective nor is the faster reaction of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods and strong winds, and thus large material damages, as well as possible injuries and human casualties, will be avoided”, according to KUCZ.
In particular, they appeal to legal entities that carry out work on construction facilities not to leave objects that could fall from the roofs of buildings, construction scaffolding, etc. due to strong winds and thus endanger the safety of passers-by.
“Also, we appeal to our fellow citizens not to leave objects on their balconies and other open spaces that could endanger the safety of passers-by due to the wind, not to park their vehicles near large trees, and to avoid trips and spending time in nature during the duration of the orange warning,” appeals from the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection.
In particular, they appeal to the municipal civil protection services from the area of Sarajevo Canton to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on alert, so that they are ready as first response forces, to respond to potentially heavy rainfall and strong winds in the area of their municipalities in accordance with their responsibilities and obligations under the protection and rescue plans.
“We remind the aforementioned subjects that they are obliged to immediately, as soon as they notice or become aware of any danger or phenomenon that may lead to the occurrence of a natural or other accident, submit all information about it to the Cantonal Civil Protection Operational Center on telephone number 121, which works continuously 24 hours a day”, conclude KUCZ KS.
