Authorities in the United States (U.S.) state of Florida have announced that a shootout on the high seas concluded with a drug-smuggling boat sinking to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea and the seizure of cocaine worth a staggering 63 million dollars.
The dramatic event unfolded on June 4th, 40 kilometers north of Puerto Cabello in Venezuela, when the Coast Guard, including members from the U.S. and the Netherlands, spotted a vessel in international waters suspected of transporting narcotics.
Coast guard officers used their weapons after the suspicious boat started rapidly approaching them. During this confrontation, the boat caught fire and sank. The search for the three individuals who were on the boat has been called off. The vessel had previously transported 2.177 kilograms of cocaine worth 63 million dollars to Florida.
This region is a frequent hotspot for encounters between the Coast Guard, drug smugglers, and migrants attempting to reach the U.S.., Klix.ba writes.
