The remains of six victims of the past war are ready for burial at a collective funeral that will be held today at the Rakita Martyrs’ Cemetery in Vlasenica. This year, in addition to four identified individuals, two unidentified (NN) victims will also be laid to rest.
Two victims whose identification by DNA analysis has not been possible so far were exhumed at the locations of Drum (Vlasenica) and Tabine Njive (Kladanj). Given that, according to available information, these are victims from Vlasenica, with the consent of the Islamic Community and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, a decision was made to bury them under the mark NN at this collective funeral.
Regarding the identified victims, it was determined that they were victims who disappeared in 1992 and 1995 in the areas of Srebrenica, Donja Kamenica and Vlasenica, the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH announced.
One of the victims to be buried is Ahmet (Mujo) Musić, born in 1939 in Vlasenica. He disappeared in 1995 after the fall of Srebrenica, and his remains were found in the Kamenica mass grave near Zvornik in 1998. Ahmet Musić’s family has so far not had the strength to give consent for identification because the remains were incomplete. However, after burying his brother earlier, Musić’s son expressed his desire to finally put his father in the grave next to him.
Haso (Bajre) Imširović, born in 1946 in Vlasenica, will also find final peace. He disappeared in 1995 in the area of Donja Kamenica, and his remains were found in 2006 during the exhumation of victims from the Kamenica – Čančari mass grave.
This year, Ibro (Šefke) Durmić, born in 1961 in Vlasenica, will also be buried. He disappeared in this area in 1992, and his remains were exhumed in August 2025 at the Jelovački potok site.
The remains of Lutvo (Sulje) Kučić, born in 1954 in Vlasenica, were also found at the same site. He disappeared in 1992, and his remains were found 33 years later, along with Durmić’s remains.
So far, 1,350 victims have been identified and buried in Vlasenica, of which 830 victims were killed in the 1995 genocide, while 537 victims were killed during 1992.
Exhumations have been carried out at 200 locations, and mass graves have been discovered at 23 locations. During 2017, the last mass graves of Vlasenica victims were discovered at the Jelovačka česma sites, from which 20 victims were exhumed, and Tugovo, from which 11 victims were exhumed.
In August 2025, a mass grave was discovered at the Jelovački potok site, from where two victims were exhumed and will find their final resting place tomorrow.
The Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina is still searching for 363 people from this area.
