In Vlasenica, the 34th anniversary of the suffering of Bosniaks in the Sušica camp was marked today, which was established by the Serbian authorities on May 31, 1992, and which was managed by members of the VRS and local militia.
From June to September 1992, around 8,000 inmates from the area of Vlasenica and Podrinje passed through the Sušica camp, and 1,617 inmates paid with their lives for the torture of the camp’s guards and founders, from psychological and physical abuse, sexual abuse, mutilation, rape and finally killing, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Dragan Nikolić-Jenki was sentenced to 20 years, Predrag Bastah to 22 years, Goran Višković to 18 years, while Simo Stupar was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2021.
The commemoration of the anniversary reminds us of the importance of memory and justice for all the victims of the Sušica camp.
