
“Current plan is to open the prison at the end of the year. Works are going as planned, there was a delay at the beginning of the works and the contractor is trying to overcome this delay with little faster pace of work and we are planning to complete all of it will by the end of the year,”stated Basic.
He noted that besides the technical, construction, there was no major problems.
The head of the construction site, engineer Strahilo Subasic, confirmed that works are currently going as planned. He recalled that despite the fact that during winter there were no major snowfall, works are still going slowly because of fog and rain.
As a reminder, the story of the construction of the state prison started in 2004, when the foundation stone was laid.
After a Czech-Spanish consortium OHL ZS got the job at the repeated tender, and the offer of 26.5 million EUR was evaluated as the best – the works started. The works are financed by the Europe Development Bank, which approved around 19.3 million EUR, 4 million EUR were approved from IPA funds, as well as donations from various organizations.
The state prison should be able to accept 300 convicts and 50 detainees. The surface of this facility is 24,000 m2, and each cell in which one person will be placed, has 12 square meters. More than 100 people of various profiles will be working in the prison.
