On Monday, the U.S. Treasury Department added HDZ BiH official Marinko Cavara and Republika Srpska (RS) Health Minister Alen Seranic from the SNSD to the list of sanctioned officials in BiH, with the explanation that they followed ethno-nationalist and political agendas at the detritment of democratic institutions and citizens of BiH, and undermined the Dayton Peace Agreement.
A day later, Milanovic called it an “an arrogant terrorization of the legitimate representative of the Croatian people in BiH” to whom Croatia “must provide all necessary protection.”
The explanation of these sanctions, such as the claim that Cavara is undermining the Dayton Peace Agreement, “is politically unlettered and very cynical because U.S. diplomacy, with high representatives for BiH, had and still has its fingers in undermining the letter and spirit of that agreement,” the Croatian president continued.
”If anyone is defending the Dayton Constitution of BiH and truly democratic processes, which imply legitimate election and representation in government bodies, then they are representatives of Croats in BiH for whom international tutors have been shaping the future for years without being asked, and are now threatened and sanctioned,” Milanovic concluded, Avaz writes.
