The Commission for preserving national monuments was visited by Ph.D. Barbara Boehm and Ph. D. Melanie Holcomb, curators in the Department for Medieval Art at the ”Metropolitan Museum of Art” in New York, whose science research is focused on the interaction of Christian, Jewish and Islamic culture in the Middle Ages. During their visit they were in the company of Sunshine Ison, the US Embassy Attaché for Culture to B&H.
The aim of this visit was to introduce the representatives of the ”Metropolitan Museum of Art” to the work of the Commission for preserving national monuments and with the state of the cultural heritage of B&H. With a short presentation of their work and projects the representatives of the Commission expressed their hope to open possibilities of future collaborations with the ”Metropolitan Museum of Art”.
During the meeting with the representatives of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Sarajevo, Boehm and Holcomb talked about the planned establishment of integrated studies for conservation and restoration of cultural heritage at the University of Sarajevo. They also talked about exchanging experiences about current studies which Boehm and Holcomb teach. After the meeting, the representatives of the Commission showed the representatives of the ”Metropolitan Museum of Art” some of the national monuments located in the center of Sarajevo.
