Customs Officer sentenced to One Year in Prison for accepting a Gift

In the case of Aleksandar Praštalo, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after today’s hearing for the consideration of the plea agreement and the hearing for the imposition of criminal sanctions, issued a verdict in which the accused Praštalo was found guilty, because he committed the criminal offense of receiving a gift and other forms of benefit.

The court sentenced the accused to a prison sentence of one year, and the time he was arrested, from October 15 to November 7 of last year, is included in his prison sentence.

The court also imposed a fine on the accused in the amount of 35,000.00 KM, which he is obliged to pay within a period that cannot be longer than six months, counting from the date of finality of the verdict, in favor of the BiH budget.

At the same time, Aleksandar Praštal was deprived of the property benefit he obtained through a criminal act, in the amount of 200 euros, i.e. the equivalent expressed in convertible marks, which amount the accused is obliged to pay within 30 days from the date of finality of the judgment in favor of the BiH budget.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina states that Praštalo was found guilty that on January 12 last year, as an official in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, acting in the capacity of a customs officer of the BiH Indirect Taxation Administration, assigned to the post of senior expert associate – shift leader at the Customs Department at the Gradiška Border Crossing, acting in the capacity of a customs officer, in order to obtain property benefits, he demanded for himself a gift in the form of money in the amount of 200 euros, not to perform an official obligation customs clearance of the goods that he had to perform.

In the same case, the Court issued a decision extending the application of the measure prohibiting the accused from undertaking certain business activities or official duties and terminating the further application of the measure prohibiting visiting certain places or areas, the Court of BiH announced.
