The Government of the Sarajevo Canton today adopted a Decision to declare a Day of Mourning in the territory of the Sarajevo Canton on the occasion of the death of the great figure of Bosnian and Herzegovinian folk music, Halid Bešlić. The Day of Mourning will be Monday, October 13, 2025.

“With this decision, the Government pays tribute to Halid Bešlić, whose songs left an indelible mark on the music scene and shaped generations, becoming part of our common cultural heritage. The loss of the highly respected artist, who passed away on October 7, 2025, is a great sorrow for all fans of his music in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

The date of October 13 was chosen because the commemoration and burial of the legendary singer are held on that day. The proposal to declare a Day of Mourning was initiated by the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, after consultations with the leaders of the Cantonal Assembly,” the Sarajevo Canton Protocol and Press Service said in a statement.

As stated, on the Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton, flags will be flown at half-mast, all public manifestations of an entertaining and humorous character are postponed.

Mourning will also be expressed with a minute of silence at gatherings, holding a commemorative session, writing in the book of mourning, as well as in other appropriate ways.

All citizens of Sarajevo Canton are invited to join in honoring Halid Bešlić with dignity, it was pointed out.
