In the first half of the current year, the Sub-Department for Civil Records in the Public Register Department of the BiH District Government recorded a decrease in births and deaths, as well as marriages compared to the same period in 2022.
According to data from birth registers, 430 new-born babies were registered in the first half of 2023, which is 44 fewer than in the same period last year, and there was also a decrease in entries in the register of deaths, and it is in the first six months, 582 deaths were registered, which is 167 less than the year before.
“There was also a decrease in the records of the register of marriages, and 198 weddings were performed in the area of Brčko District in the first six months, while 282 weddings were entered in the register of marriages, which is seven less than in the first six months of 2022,” said Sebastijan Lukić on behalf of the Subdivision for Civil Records.
He added that the number of registrations and the number of weddings differ due to the fact that a certain number of registered weddings took place outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to registration in the registry, Lukić stated, entity citizenship is also registered in that subdivision, and citizens of Brčko District can opt for entity citizenship of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina or entity citizenship of the RS. In the first six months, 391 requests for entity citizenship were processed, and this number is decreasing year by year, because most citizens already have entity citizenship, noting that citizens can change their citizenship at any time.
“Regarding the certification of documents, there was an increase of 13,690 certified documents, and in the first six months nearly 98,000 documents were certified,” Lukić added.
In the Sub-Department for Civil Records, the verification of entries in electronic records from old civil registers dating back to 1886 and up to today is carried out, and so far around 30,000 entries have been verified.
