Member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, received the delegation of the Parliamentary Group for Southeast Europe of the German Bundestag, where he expressed satisfaction with this visit, as well as Germany’s continued interest in deepening cooperation between the two countries.
Bećirović said that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany are marking 30 years of diplomatic cooperation and that bilateral relations are very good and have a trend of improvement.
He mentioned the resolution of the German Bundestag from last year entitled “Support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way to a better future”, which additionally contributes to the improvement of relations between the two countries.
He also said that the German Bundestag’s decision to approve the participation of German soldiers as part of the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina was important, and expressed gratitude to Germany for its engagement in demining in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the great economic assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The importance of parliamentary cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany was highlighted, and the members of the Parliamentary Group for Southeast Europe of the German Bundestag expressed their interest in continuing intensive and good parliamentary cooperation in the future. As it was said, the reason for their visit is to support the formation of the Friendship Group in the BiH Parliament as soon as possible and the continuation of good cooperation.
The conversation also focused on BiH’s further path towards full membership in the EU, and gratitude was expressed for Germany’s support in the process of obtaining candidate status.
Members of the Parliamentary Group for Southeast Europe of the German Bundestag congratulated Bosnia and Herzegovina on the award of candidate status for EU membership and said that it is necessary to work intensively on obtaining the conditions for membership.
Counselor Boris Tučić attended the meeting on behalf of the Chairperson of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović, and Counselor Slaven Kovačević attended the meeting on behalf of the member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić, the Presidency of BiH announced.
