Deputy Chairman of BiH CoM: We insist on the Termination of the Mandate of foreign Judges

Staša Košarac, the deputy chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers, told Srna news agency that at today’s session of the Council, he will request information on the status of SNSD’s proposals for laws on the Constitutional Court of BiH and the termination of the mandate of foreign judges.

He also announced that he will present to the Council of Ministers the conclusion on the rejection of the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the “Kovačević” case, and the initiative on the accession of BiH to the BRICS Union.

Speaking about SNSD’s proposals, Košarac said that laws on the Constitutional Court of BiH and the termination of the mandate of foreign judges must go into procedure in parallel with the Law on the Court of BiH and other issues from 14 priorities, in accordance with the conclusions of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska (RSS).

“That is our political position, that is the policy of President Milorad Dodik and the policy of the institutions of Republika Srpska. We insist that the laws on the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the termination of the mandate of foreign judges be adopted as soon as possible,” emphasized Košarac.

That is why, as pointed out by Košarac, today they will ask BiH Minister of Justice Davor Bunoza for complete information on what stage the working group for the judiciary is in regarding the two proposed laws.

Košarac reminded that both laws were presented at the last session of the Council of Ministers, after which they were submitted to the working group for justice, headed by the Minister of Justice.

He added that it is extremely important that both laws be put on the agenda of the Council of Ministers as soon as possible, and with their support also in the procedure in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

“SNSD and the Republika Srpska have offered a solution. We lead a responsible national policy and we know what our priorities are in protecting the interests of the Republika Srpska. We will not deviate from that even a millimeter and that should be clear to the partners at the joint level,” said Košarac.

Commenting on the opposition’s accusations that the SNSD violated the conclusions of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska (NSRS) and engaged in political trading, Košarac stated that these are meaningless and false claims aimed at deceiving the public.

“I don’t know if it’s even necessary to waste words on the empty populist stories of the same opposition actors who ran headlong from the parliamentary benches regardless of when important national issues had to be decided,” Košarac added.

When it comes to the decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the “Kovačević” case, Košarac repeated that such a decision is unenforceable, and that it represents a gross attack on the constitutional order and the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“Today I will propose that the Council of Ministers adopt a conclusion rejecting the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the Kovačević case,” announced Košarac.

He pointed out that today he will propose to his colleagues that the Council of Ministers consider the initiative on the accession of BiH to BRICS, the union founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Košarac stated that potential membership in BRICS does not exclude membership in the EU, but that it is certainly not politically conditioned, which is, unfortunately, the practice of the EU in relation to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Why don’t we open a discussion about membership in BRICS, a union of our friendly countries that promote economic cooperation and political dialogue. The fact is that this union has an increasingly important role in the global framework, but also that numerous countries have shown interest in joining this organization. “Such initiatives can be heard recently in Serbia as well. There is no reason why we should not openly discuss and consider the possibilities and perspectives of BiH’s eventual membership in this international union,” Košarac said.
