Director of the Banking Agency: There is no Reason to Increase Interest Rates in the coming Period

During the last year, but also in the first half of this year, the financial conditions on the world market changed dynamically. The European Central Bank raised the reference interest rate for the ninth time in a row to a record high level, and recently the US Central Bank also increased interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. Clarification – inflation has not stopped. New circumstances on the markets will also have an impact on the financial sector in our country. How and what awaits us – Jasmin Mahmuzić, director of the Banking Agency of the Federation, spoke to Dnevnik 3.

“In the Federation, there is no reason to increase interest rates in the coming period, said Mahmuzić,”we are doing everything, he said, to keep interest rates in the range they are in now, which is a reasonable range.

“We monitor the price of deposits, the liquidity of banks – and while they are as they are, we see no reason for interest rates to rise to a level where they are rising in the European Union,” Mahmuzić pointed out and added that interest rates in Bosnia and Herzegovina are the lowest in the region and among the lowest in the European Union.

Mahmuzić also said that they are keeping things under control – the financial system is stable, our inflation is imported one. He pointed out that the news is encouraging, that in the leading European economies – in Germany and France – inflation is falling, but it is still far from the target level of two percent, which the European Central Bank is trying to achieve.
