The 23rd anniversary of the defense of Dobrinja, the Aerodromsko settlement, settlement C-5, Nedžarići and Mojmilo Hill was marked yesterday in the Aerodromsko settlement of Sarajevo, with the laying of flowers and praying Fatiha at the memorial built in memory of the brave fighters who gave their lives to defend the homeland.
At this place, where 23 years ago fierce battles for the defense of Dobrinja and Sarajevo were lead, representatives of the veterans’ associations, the Local Community Dobrinja-B, members of families of fallen soldiers, fellow fighters, pupils of Dobrinja primary schools and the councilors of the Municipal Council of Novi Grad gathered.
From 6th to 21st of June 1992 day and night battles to defend Dobrinja had been lead at Dobrinja, but the last day was decisive, when the fighting ended with the defense of Dobrinja.
According to the participants in the battles, in this part of Novi Grad, 27 BH fighters, young people who were frantically defending this settlement, were killed on June 21st 1992.
This battle was a battle for life, since the RB&H Army combatants were aware that if this part of the settlement fell, Dobrinja, Vojničko, and Alipašino Polje would also fall.
It was the entrance gate to the city and one should not even think about what would have happened if Dobrinja was not defended from the aggressors.
“Dobrinja was a very important defensive point, and thanks to its brave fighters and wise commanders it was defended from the aggressors, although it was totally surrounded for some time”, said the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality Novi Grad Tajib Delalić.
He added that the restoration of the names of fallen fighters that are engraved on the memorial plaque at Habiba Stočević Street was completed a few days ago, since they were almost wiped out.
After that, a solemn session of the Council of the Local Community was held at the premises of the Local Community “Dobrinja-B”.
