After the European Commission officially recommended that Ukraine be granted candidate status, after which numerous EU leaders called for it to be awarded to BiH, BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik commented on the move.
We remind you that Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob called on EU institutions to grant BiH candidate status to join the bloc.
It seems that BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik also believes that his country meets the conditions for being granted candidate status, primarily because, unlike Ukraine, it meets security criteria for such a thing. He believes that joining the EU is the only issue on which there is a consensus of all peoples in BiH.
“That decision rightly makes us think about whether the European path is the only path we should take. If the decision on Ukraine is guided by the current events there, I can’t help but ask whether the 93,000 dead in BiH are not enough for ‘European’ criteria.” “Dodik asks.
The member of the Presidency of BiH believes that our country is expected to “meet conditions that are not currently met by some members, and on the other hand, candidate status is proposed for a state on whose territory armed conflicts are taking place.”
Dodik concluded that “if this is the EU we aspired to, then thank you for such an EU.”
