Dodik on Estonian Sanctions: It’s like a drunk talking about the Harm of Alcohol

Former president of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska and president of the SNSD Milorad Dodik reacted after it was announced that Estonia had imposed sanctions on him.

“When Estonia talks about separatism and accuses someone of it, it’s the same as when a drunkard talks about the harmfulness of alcohol. I have never been to Estonia, nor did I intend to go there, so the decision to ban entry is completely meaningless. They only made Sarajevo happy, at least for a day,” he wrote in a short post on the social network X.

As a reminder, the decision to impose sanctions on Dodik was announced by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, emphasizing that the sanctions apply to persons who threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and encourage separatist activities.

An entry ban and asset freeze against Dodik, his family and some other senior RS officials were previously imposed by Slovenia, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Poland and Lithuania.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina has called early elections for the president of the Bosnian entity of Republika Srpska for 23 November 2025. The conditions for calling them were met after the final decision of the Court of BiH, which sentenced Milorad Dodik, who held the position of President of the RS, to one year in prison and a ban on holding the position of President of the RS for six years.

The Central Election Commission of BiH then stripped Dodik of his mandate at a session on 6 August this year, and the decision of the election commission was confirmed by the Appellate Chamber of the Court of BiH.
