Donald Trump’s Administration strongly supports the Southern Interconnection

The United States Chargé d’Affaires in Bosnia and Herzegovina, John Ginkel, met today in Sarajevo with leaders of the ruling coalition in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of achieving significant progress in the implementation of the Southern Interconnection gas pipeline project.

As announced by the US Embassy, the Southern Interconnection is a strategic energy project for the entire region, and at today’s meeting it was agreed that an American company will take over the development and management of the gas pipeline. This move further confirms the strong involvement of the United States in strengthening the energy security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A special focus of the meeting was also on the draft international agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, which would enable the delivery of American liquefied natural gas through Croatian territory. The leaders of the ruling coalition in the FBiH agreed on the next steps necessary to finalize this agreement and accelerate the implementation of the project.

The US Embassy emphasizes that the administration of President Donald Trump strongly supports the Southern Interconnection, emphasizing that this project can bring long-term energy stability, greater energy independence, and more secure supply chains to BiH.

The US side expects that, in close cooperation with partners in BiH, the project will soon enter an accelerated phase of implementation, which will further strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure. The Southern Interconnection is already considered one of the most important infrastructure and energy projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
