After the match, Džumhur said that he would not like his victory to be diminished although Nadal surrendered the match. Đovković also congratulated him. Džumhur added that his health condition was not the best during the match either.

“I would not like my victory to be diminished because Nadal surrendered the match, especially knowing how much emotion, power and energy I invested in this match. I met Novak Đoković after the match and he told me to be proud of myself, because Nadal has never surrendered a match in his career before. And truth is, I am proud. I made a great thing. I fought and gave my best to win, although I was feeling bad, too. The heat is unbearable, but I thought that perhaps I will never have the opportunity to play against Nadal again and I continued. I played better and better and celebrated in the end. On the other side, Nadal did not surrender before the third set, and until then we have already been fighting for every point. I am emotionally and physically exhausted,” Džumhur said.

Džumhur said that the match has drained him out and that he prayed to God that Nadal does not surrender the match.

“I prayed to God that Nadal does not surrender the match; that he ends it even if that means I will lose. Whoever wins over Nadal must be satisfied. I am proud of myself, of my fans and I dedicate this victory to my family and all those fans who believe in me and, of course, to my country,” Džumhur said.
