Edin Džeko will return to the Bundesliga in his 23rd season of professional football, following his agreement to remain at FC Schalke 04 for the next season, the German club announced.
Following his successful second half of the season with the royal blue, the captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team signed a new one-year agreement. Džeko will join the team’s practice on Tuesday, August 4. He represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at his second World Cup this summer, following his performance in the 2014 tournament.
After arriving from Fiorentina in January, Edin Džeko played a key role in Schalke’s qualification for the Bundesliga. He scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 performances.
“Edin brought something special to Schalke 04 during the first four and a half months at the club. He was a key player and a fan favorite, and his personality meant that he always set an example both on and off the pitch. Our talks over the past couple of weeks have clearly shown that Edin is still hungry for the game, as always. Therefore, we believe he can help us in the Bundesliga as well. Edin remains at Schalke, which is fantastic news,” said Youri Mulder, the Director of Professional Football at FC Schalke 04.
“Since arriving at Schalke in the winter, I have been a part of a fantastic team and experienced an amazing fan support. Qualifying for the Bundesliga is among the top achievements of my career. I am still hungry for the game, and I want to help our team in the Bundesliga as well,” said Edin Džeko, who will continue to carry the No.10 shirt for Schalke.
