The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that so far eight bodies have been pulled from the ruins of the canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, while two people are in the hospital, one of whom is in serious condition because her legs were amputated.
“We have two people under the ruins. We are in contact with them. 80 people are involved in the rescue operation. We will monitor the situation and you will be informed about everything,” Dacic told reporters in Novi Sad.
At around 12 o’clock today, a part of the canopy collapsed at the Novi Sad railway station.
Ambulance, fire and police teams are at the scene of the accident. The ambulance says that they cannot speak about the number of injured and the extent of the injuries at this time, because the interventions are ongoing.
Two excavators have also arrived to excavate the rubble.
RTV reports that the canopy is located above the entrance door to the station building.
At the time of the canopy collapse, a large number of people were sitting on the benches below, and people in the lobby were buying tickets.
