The fourth Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week – SECW 2026 gathered today in Ilidža more than 200 experts who will, by September 25th, request concrete solutions for energy and industrial transformation.
This week’s SECW will open topics regarding financing renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, the development of green hydrogen, smart grids, digitalization, innovation, electromobility, circular economy, and energy justice.
The Vice President of the SECW 2026 Program, Prof. Mustafa Musić, emphasized that the energy transition is a comprehensive and challenging process that will last for the next 30 or more years, which is in Bosnia and Herzegovina further complicated by the non-adoption of the new law on electricity.
He emphasized that it is particularly important to recognize the impact of climate change on the electric power system and prepare it to respond to the challenges, which will entail its decentralization.
“Ultimately, the transition should lead to a reduction in electricity prices, as a good portion of power generation would take place at the point of consumption, i.e., by prosumers, eliminating many of the costs associated with distribution,” Musić said.
Federal Minister of Energy, Mining, and Industry, Vedran Lakić, said that energy is the world’s most important resource we need to talk about openly and concretely.
He added that the SECW experts will talk about energy policies, projects, and laws, and make high-quality conclusions to improve the energy framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Stojanović said that the awareness among citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina about energy issues is at a low level and that he expects the SECW to accelerate energy transition processes.
President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mirsad Jašarspahić stated that the SECW 2026 has grown into a global gathering in the field of the energy transition and climate impact, calling for all legal regulations in this area to be aligned with the EU legislation.
It was announced that a special segment of the conference – “Emerik Blum Day”- will be dedicated to regional cooperation, diversification of supply sources, and energy security, Fena writes.
