EU welcomes BiH adoption of Criminal Procedure Code amendments

SARAJEVO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) — The European Union welcomed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s adoption of amendments of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) on Tuesday, the EU delegation in BiH said Tuesday in a statement on its official website.

In its statement, the EU delegation in BiH said that political parties “have shown readiness to take important decisions in the interest of citizens based on compromise, and undertake efforts to implement the BiH Constitutional Court decisions”.

The EU delegation also noted that the adoption of the CPC Law by the BiH House of Representatives before the October elections would show that BiH is committed to acting as a “credible partner of the EU and its Member States in fighting serious crime and ensuring public security”.

When it comes to BiH progress on its path towards the EU, it is of a great importance to align its CPC Law with the international and European standards.

Furthermore, by the adoption of amendments to CPC Law, BiH law enforcement institutions will be able to conduct sensitive investigations, fight against the organized crime and corruption and cooperate with international law enforcement agencies.

On Feb. 15, 2016, BiH formally submitted its application to join the EU, which was accepted on Sept. 20, 2016.
