At Tuzla International Airport on Thursday, EUFOR, together with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH), conducted the exercise “Simulation of Real-Life Scenarios: Armed Assault, Hostage Crisis and Abandoned Luggage – Explosive Device.”
The exercise brought together representatives of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton, Tuzla International Airport, and EUFOR.
Designed to strengthen interagency cooperation and crisis-response capabilities, the exercise included four realistic scenarios: an armed attack on a vehicle at the airport entrance, a hostage situation, a suspected explosive device contained in abandoned luggage, and a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation. The exercise also involved the coordinated use of helicopter assets from EUFOR and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Exercises such as this are of great importance to EUFOR because they provide an invaluable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and build trust among all institutions involved in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. By training together in realistic conditions, participants enhance collective preparedness, improve coordination procedures, and ensure that all partners can act quickly and effectively when faced with a crisis.
“For EUFOR, these joint exercises are an essential part of supporting local authorities and strengthening the overall capacity of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s institutions to respond to security incidents and emergencies. They allow us to share expertise, validate established procedures, and identify areas for further improvement,”said EUFOR Chief of Staff Brigadier General Traian T. Maghercă.
The professionalism, dedication, and cooperation demonstrated by all participants underline the value of regular joint training and reaffirm the shared commitment to maintaining stability and security for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
