The assistance for B&H was provided at the beginning of August through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, when forest fires spread throughout the country.
The Crisis Center of the European Commission coordinated assistance at the European level in the event of a disaster and in this way provided effective help. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism helps cooperation in responding to the accident and covers 32 European states (EU member states, Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway).
Participating countries pool resources in order to help afflicted countries worldwide. The Balkan region is currently experiencing high temperatures, which increases the risk of forest fires.
In B&H, in the area of Donja Jablanica, the fire has spread to a nearby village. Despite the assistance provided through helicopters, on 21 and 22 August, the fire in the area of Slatina is still rapidly expanding, and on the other direction the expansion is taking place towards the main road M-16-2 with the possibility to expand to the power plant Jablanica.
