Exhibition of old Timers in Sarajevo

The exhibition of old timer cars on the Square in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo today gathered numerous drivers and fans of old cars from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as countries from the region.

Among more than 50 old cars, a 56-year-old ‘thirty-year-old’ and his driver Đevad Vereget, a former traffic officer of the Osijek traffic police, in full police uniform, stood out.

The 70-year-old former militiaman said to Fena news agency that he came from Osijek to Sarajevo with the ‘1300 flag’, just like last year, and that he will do it as long as he can.

“I’ll do the same back, on wheels. I will buy olive oil for home as well. As long as I can, I will come to Sarajevo, I like it because the people are well-intentioned,” said Vereget and reminded that he also goes to rallies in other countries of the region.

He says that he also drove a ‘three-wheeler’ in his service, which was an excellent car at the time.

“With almost 1,300 cubic meters, it developed a speed of up to 150 per hour, so that the ‘fica’ and other lower class cars had no chance against the blue and white ‘tristach’,”recalled Vereget, who has been enjoying a pension for two decades.

When he retired, he bought a ‘three hundred’ out of love for old cars, but also a former official vehicle.

It was in a very bad condition, overgrown with grass, but he managed to bring it to perfection.

“Originally it was in the militia, and then it was bought as a private vehicle when it was repainted. Now it’s back to square one,” Vereget said, noting that the car was worked on for several years to get it on its wheels.

The gathering in front of the National Theater was part of the activities traditionally organized by Old Timer Club Sarajevo in recent days.
